Adaptation to Climate Change - Exchange with the Baltic States

The aim of the journey was to facilitate the exchange among experts from the Baltic States and Germany regarding the topic of adaptation to climate change. The delegation visited the municipality Timmendorfer Strand, which has in the past years implemented measures to be better prepared for storm floods. Two meetings with the German Ministry of Environment and the Federal Environment Agency assured the exchange on specific questions regarding adaptation to climate change. Finally, part of the delegation visited the 2nd Regional Conference on Climate Adaptation of Coastal Regions in Bremerhaven.

The participants of the study trip will be able to use the insights and new ideas for the development of adaptation strategies to climate change and related action plans in their countries.
The study trip was implemented by BEF Germany in the frame of the project BaltClim, which supports the Ministries of Environment of the Baltic States in developing adaptation strategies to climate change. The project BaltClim is part-funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety with means of the Advisory Assistance Programme for Environmental Protection in the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It is technically supervised by the German Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA).
